Animal face painting — from tigers to puppies.
Tiger and leopard are the perennial favourites; cat, dog, frog and monkey are the safe choices for younger kids. Snakes and dolphins for the more adventurous.
Animal designs are the safe bet at any party. They cross gender lines (more than princess or superhero do), they suit almost any age, and they don't require the kid to know a specific franchise. When the painter asks an indecisive child "what's your favourite animal?", the answer comes faster than "what's your favourite character?".
The two main "schools"
Animal designs split into two styles:
- Cartoonish / stylised (default for under-8s) — exaggerated whiskers, bright base colour, simple eye motifs. Reads from across a room. Photographs well.
- Detailed / realistic (for 9+ and adults) — proper rosettes, scales, fur shading, accurate proportions. Slower (10–12 minutes) but stunning.

Jungle / safari themed party
If you're running a full jungle theme, brief the painter in advance and ask them to bring matched balloon sculpts (monkey hats, snake swords, giraffe figures) and a jungle-themed glitter-tattoo stencil pack. The painter can come in safari-print clothing if you want full coordination.

What is the most popular animal design?
Tiger for boys, cat or leopard for girls. Frog is a strong third — it photographs really well because the eye motif sits high on the forehead.
How long does a tiger / leopard design take?
5–7 minutes for full-face. The stripes / spots are quick once the base is down, but the detail around the eyes and muzzle takes the time.
Can painters do realistic versions (not cartoon)?
For older kids and adults yes — realistic snake scales, leopard rosettes, full-face leopard with shading all work for 10+. For under-8s, stylised cartoonish versions read better and are more recognisable from across the room.
Animal-themed party — what else can a painter bring?
Themed glitter tattoos (small paw prints, butterflies, snakes) on a stencil set; balloon animals (dogs, giraffes, monkeys, snakes); and the painter in a jungle-themed apron if you want full coordination. Ask the painter when booking.
Are scary animals (snakes, spiders, sharks) OK for under-5s?
Most under-5s decline — they go for friendly choices like cat, dog, butterfly. By 6+ snakes and sharks become popular. Good painters let the kid choose, never steering them away.
